War Chronicles (12.10.2022)

As of October 12, 2022, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 422 children have died and more than 808 children have been injured. Due to the active hostilities in affected regions, there is no possibility to inspect the areas of shelling and destruction.

As a result of Russian aggression during the past day, October 11, 14 civilians were killed and 34 people were injured. This was announced by the deputy head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

During the last day, 209 infrastructure objects were damaged in Ukraine due to large-scale missile attacks by the Russian Federation and drone-kamikaze attacks. Of them: 51 – private houses, 31 – apartment buildings, 102 other objects (including schools, hospitals and kindergartens). This was announced by Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

As a result of bombing and shelling by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, 2,614 educational institutions were damaged. Of them, 313 were completely destroyed.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of October 13, the adversary attempts to hold the temporarily captured territories, concentrates its efforts on disrupting the counter-offensive operations of Ukrainian Defence Forces on certain axes. The russians also attempt to conduct offensive operations on Bakhmut and Avdiivka axes. 

The enemy is shelling positions of Ukrainian troops along the line of contact, carries out engineering development of defensive positions and frontiers on certain axes and conducts aerial reconnaissance. 

In violation of the International Humanitarian Law, as well as the laws and principles of war, the enemy launches strikes at critical infrastructure, as well as civilian residences.

During the day of 12th October, the occupant forces launched 3x missile and 21x air strikes, and conducted 104x MLRS attacks. 

Civilian population and infrastructure of more than 40x Ukrainian settlements were subject to enemy shelling, including Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Chernyakhove, Bilohorivka, Spirne, Pavlivka, Myrne, and Davydiv Brid.

Russian occupants made active use of cruise, air-to-surface, anti-aircraft guided missiles, and Iran-made unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukrainian settlements.

The enemy continued to shell civilian and military infrastructure in the following areas:

Sivershchyna axis: mortar and artillery attacks in the vicinities of Myropillya, Seredyna-Buda, Stukalivka, and Pavlivka; 

Slobozhanshchyna axis: artillery shelling in the vicinities of Buhruvatka, Hryanykivka, Dvorichna, Nova Vovcha, Strilecha, Udy, and Chervona Zorya;

Kramatorsk axis: tank, mortar, artillery and missile fire all along the line of contact. In particular, near Bilohorivka, Zarichne, Novoyehorivka, Serebryanka, Spirne, Terny, Tors’ke, and Yampolivka;

Bakhmut axis: tank, mortar, and artillery fire all along the line of contact. In particular, the adversary fired at the vicinities of settlements of Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Zelenopilya, Soledar, Mayorsk, New York, and Yakovlivka;

Avdiivka axis: the occupants employed tanks, mortars, artillery and missile systems in the vicinities of Avdiivka, Krasnohorivka, Mar’inka, Nevelske, and Pervomais’ke.

Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia axes: over 15 settlements were shelled by the enemy. Among them are Bohoyavlenka, Vremivka, Zaliznychne, Mykil’s’ke, Novopil’, Novosilka, and Poltavka.

Pivdennyi Buh axis: vicinities of over 20x settlements along the line of contact were targeted by enemy fire. 

Actions of the Ukrainian troops:

During the day of 12th October, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled several enemy attacks in the vicinities of Bakhmuts’ke, Ozaryanivka, Ivanhrad, Bakhmut, and Mar’inka.

On certain axes of active combat, in particular in Donetsk oblast, enemy units started receiving orders from their superior command to temporarily cease offensive operations. The main reason is the extremely low morale of their reinforcements, numerous desertions by the mobilised, and refusal to fulfil combat orders. 

According to the information available, Ukrainian Defence Forces have engaged 3x S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems of the enemy along with personnel in the vicinities of Tokmak (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Wounded occupants were taken to local hospital. As a result of precise fire damage in the vicinity of Tokarivka (Kherson oblast) the losses of the enemy amounted to 150x people killed. 

It is also known that the repair depot of the occupant forces in the vicinity of settlement of Kalanchak takes in up to 30x repairable damaged armoured vehicles every day.

During the day of 12th October Ukrainian Air Force launched 32x air strikes. Over 25x concentrations of weapons and military equipment, as well as 7x anti-aircraft missile systems of the adversary are confirmed hit. In addition, Ukrainian Air Defence units have shot down 4x enemy attack helicopters and 26x UAVs.

During the day of 12th October, Ukrainian missile and artillery troops engaged 6x enemy command posts, 7x concentrations of troops, weapons, and military equipment, and 4x ammunition depots. Positions of the enemy artillery, electronic warfare assets, as well as other military targets have also come under fire.

Analysis of key events in the regions of Ukraine:

Donetsk and Luhansk Region

Six people were killed in the Donetsk region yesterday as a result of shelling by the Russian occupiers. One more person was wounded. This was announced by the head of the regional military administration Pavlo Kyrylenko on October 12.

In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in the Donetsk region, at least 979 civilians have died, and another 2,377 people have been injured. Kyrylenko noted that it is not yet possible to establish the exact number of victims in Mariupol and Volnovakha.

On the morning of October 12, 2022, the occupying forces of the Russian Federation bombarded the city of Avdiivka with “Grad” MLRS. This is reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The rockets hit the local market. As a result of the shelling, seven local residents died – six women and a man. Another twelve civilians were injured of varying degrees of severity. The infrastructure of the market, adjacent buildings and apartment buildings were also damaged.

Kharkiv and Region

It became known that on March 21, an 8-year-old girl was injured as a result of enemy shelling in Lozova, Kharkiv region.

It also became known that on June 25, an 8-year-old boy was injured as a result of shelling in Shevchenkove of Kupiansk district.

As a result of the shelling of Kharkiv and the region by the Russian occupation contingent since the beginning of the war, 11,397 objects of civil infrastructure were destroyed in the region. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Kyrylo Tymoshenko. In particular, 3,122 high-rise buildings and 5,240 private houses, 1,638 housing and communal facilities, and 116 administrative buildings were destroyed.

Mykolaiv and Region

As of October 12, since the beginning of the Russian invasion, 12,214 civilian objects have been partially or completely damaged in Mykolaiv region (+27 over the past day).

Of them:

– housing stock objects – 7873,

– medical institutions – 87,

– educational institutions – 373,

– cultural institutions – 177,

– facilities of industrial enterprises – 173,

– life support facilities: gas – 953, electricity – 708, water – 30, heat supply – 95,

– other non-military objects – 1,745.

6,485 consumers remain without gas supply.

Electricity supply, water supply, and drainage were stopped in 91 settlements.

On the morning of October 12, the Kutsurub territorial community of the Mykolaiv district was heavily shelled by the occupiers.

As a result of the Russian shelling, 15 residential buildings were damaged – -indows and doors were broken, and the roof and walls were destroyed.

In addition, an enemy rocket hit a gas pipeline, causing a gas leak and a severe fire. The settlement currently lacks electricity, water and gas supply.

Zaporizhzhia and Region 

The city of Orikhiv continues to suffer from heavy shelling. Only on October 11, 5 residents of the community were killed, 4 more were injured. Deputy mayor Svitlana Mandrych reports this. According to the Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, yesterday the Russians shelled Orikhiv and Stepnohirsk with MLRSs and tube artil?-ry. In total, it is known about 7 dead, the same number injured. In the Zaporizhzhia region, the enemy army shelled 22 settlements. This is reported by the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration. In total, 46 reports were received about the destruction of civil infrastructure objects as a result of shelling by the Russian occupation forces. 

Dnipro and Region

According to the reports of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Dnipro region, the Russian occupying forces shelled the region at night with “Grad” MLRS and heavy tube artillery. More than 100 shells were fired at Nikopol alone.

A 6-year-old girl and her 33-year-old mother were seriously injured. The girl lost her legs. The entire family is hospitalized. Rescuers pulled a 42-year-old resident of Nikopol from under the rubble. She is also in critical condition in hospital. In the city, more than 30 high-rise buildings and private houses, 2 kindergartens, a school, 2 businesses, 3 shops, a cafe, the office of a charity fund, gas pipelines and the electricity network were mutilated.
